21ST CENTURY PRINTMAKER
In art school, I fell in love with printmarking. In the pandemic, I found myself kitchen-table printmaking: drawing, carving, and printing editions by hand in my tiny apartment. Since, I’ve held 2 residencies, a fellowship in letterpress printing, and have shown my work across the country.
In The Weeds
Personal work exploring mental health and the dual nature of weeding and pruning: We have the power to eradicate entire plants and ecosystems, as well as prune them to make room for new growth. We can get lost in the weeds, and find solace from the act of weeding along a yard, garden, or sidewalk. How we can hold the dichotomy of the wanted and unwanted parts of ourselves: the flower and the weeds? Taking inspiration from the natural world and our relation to it, I prod at the complex nature between control, nature, and self.
Published Work
I’ve had the honor of making work for print publication and program fundraisers. As a print designer at the Star Tribune, I used print illustration for two high-profile annual features: the annual turkey coloring contest and Holiday Books guide.
All of the work I sell, including commissions, are unique and completely had-printed. For digital work, like the Holiday Books guide illustration, I’ve started working with a mix of print and digital techniques. Adding digital color can significantly decrease hours needed to print and allow for ink dry time.
Lino Prints
You can find some of my earlier pandemic work in my Etsy shop. Some of the more limited edition prints have sold out. Many of my first experiments were printed as open editions - meaning I would continue reprinting blocks after I had sold out. This allows me to print based on demand, though over time these blocks will wear down and editions will eventually close.
